The Department of Training and Workforce Development assists regional Diploma of Nursing students who need to travel to complete their practical placements as part of their mandatory training. This assistance is the Nurses Stipend and Travel Allowance to Attend Placements Program (program).
The program provides a subsidy for eligible Diploma of Nursing students for travel expenses to their placement location as well as provide them with a stipend to help with the cost of living while they are away from home.
A student is eligible to claim a Travel Allowance and stipend when:
- they are enrolled in HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing (or its predecessor)
- they are a permanent resident and resides in a Western Australian region including Peel;
- they are required to travel outside of their local area to attend mandatory practical work placements because they are unable to obtain a local placement; and
- they are not in receipt of, or eligible for, Commonwealth or State funding that would reimburse placement costs for the same activity.
